Information Age Arrives: Momentus day for Kenya

The last 18 months have been very rough on Kenyans and we should be thankful to God for day like today.

I actually think that the arrival of fibre optic cable has the potential to be impact Kenya’s economy more than the mobile penetration has.

The opportunities really are massive with a whole new economic sector not just in outsourcing but programming; off-shoring opening up.

One hold back will be power generation where GoK must aggressively encourage solar energy and other sources. I was expecting to see some tax breaks in this field in the budget just gone…

Special mention goes to visionary that is Bitange Ndemo who really has owned and driven the whole TEAMS project.

All in all, a great day in Kenya’s history.

The penetration of the mobile phone and the unaffordability of the PC complicates the situation in Kenya.

For their to be real change, businesses should lead the way and then the masses will follow.

Ssembonge. In a way its good that mobile internet usage is growing so fast because commercialisation of that usage has now got the infrastructure it requires.

Yes, some commercial ventures will require some degree of PC usage, but many others will merely require that mobile applications develop to keep pace with the reality of mobile internetting.

Hi Guys, dont forget the cyber crime wave that's about to wash over us.Most of the high ranking Gvt and Private biz officials don't have a working knowledge on cyber crime prevention.

Ssembonge business has always lead the way. What the govt has to do is provide infrastructure which it has done with TEAMS. Mobile phone penetration is actually a good thing and doesn't complicate anything in my opinion. To see further developments in this regard check out my blog on http://jellyfishcoolman.wordpress.com As for pesa tu cyber crime has always been a problem so long as you are connected to the internet. Nevertheless security will be addressed and shouldn't stop us from implementing ambitious projects otherwise we would never develope. Wealth always attracts thieves but that shouldn't stop us from trying to acquire it.

Netbooks will soon be under $100. Currently manufacturers are skimming to recover RnD costs.

I bought my netbook just around the time they first came out... then the prices reduced by over $100 within days - for more even features! GRRRR!

The loss is posted in my "life choices education account".
